Admiral Vernon is so-named after a British naval commander who, while charging about the West Indies in 1740, reduced the rum ration of the sailors under his command. This lead to the creation of grog – watered-down rum. But it also inspired sailors to add sugar and lime juice to make their drink more palatable. The result is still an accessible means of enjoying rum today!
