If you know a whisky-lover with a taste for the exotic, but an appreciation for the traditional, then a personalised bottle of Balvenie 14-year-old Caribbean-cask scotch is sure to please. This particular scotch, as you might expect, has been matured for fourteen years. But this phase, which takes place in traditional oak casks, is just the beginning.
This whisky is finished using casks that once held Caribbean rum. This process was arrived at by the Balvenie Malt Master, David C. Stewart MBE. He filled an assortment of American Oak casks with him own custom blend of West-Indian rums. The flavours, over time, began to seep into the surrounding wood. After a lot of painstaking work and a fair stretch of time, we’re able to enjoy a whole new spin on a classic scotch. Tasting Notes
This scotch offers a great deal of creamy richness in the nose, along with a delicate burst of fresh fruit. In the palate, vanilla and oak comes to the fore, backed up by a steadily-building hum of fruit.
