Rum of this sort was a staple in the British Royal Navy since 1655, with each sailor being granted a portion as part of the daily ration by the ship's purser. The tradition ended with the abolishment of the ration in 1970, following which the rights to the product were bought from the Admiralty by Charles Tobias, whose distillery has kept this historic drink alive.
The blue label represents the most authentic interpretation of this staple of the British Empire, and so if you know a rum-purist, It's certain to provide exactly What's required!
This is a satisfyingly sweet drink. In the nose you will get demerara sugar, molasses and spices, which endure long into the full, round body. A note of peppery spice persists throughout, providing a long, humming finish.
