This distinctive drink came to be in New Orleans during the late 19th century, when the son of a pair of Irish immigrants decided that he wasn't satisfied with the harsh taste of the whiskies available at the time. He gathered a selection of choice spices and fruits, and set about creating his own whiskey liqueur. More than a century later, and Southern Comfort has become a global phenomenon.
Southern Comfort is a drink that's reliably delicious. It's 35% ABV, and makes an excellent partner for a range of cocktails and mixers. Tasting Notes
The spicy qualities of this drink are slow to release in the nose, and backed up by the scent of sweet red fruits. This fruit gets riper in the palate, with the spices returning to the fore for the finish, which is long and satisfying.
